Ypsilanti, Mich. - Trisha Roberts' golden goal in the 92nd minute proved to be the difference as Miami University's women's soccer team fell to Eastern Michigan, 2-1, in overtime Friday evening in Ypsilanti, Mich.

"Eastern Michigan is a tough place to play," said head coach Bobby Kramig. "We were able to go about our business and, overall, played a good soccer game."

The RedHawks (3-4-1, 2-2-0 MAC) were able to penetrate offensively, gaining a sizable edge in corner kicks, 7-2, but were unable to generate shots. Miami took a season-low 10 shots, including seven on the Eagle (4-3-2, 3-0-1 MAC) goal.

After playing to a 1-1 tie in regulation, the game went to overtime, where Eastern Michigan ended the match just 1:11 into the extra frame. On a RedHawk foul, Abi Morrell took the free kick, chipping a ball into the box. Trisha Roberts was able to head the ball past freshman goalkeeper Megan Ortner (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) for the golden goal.

Freshman Kate Padfield (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) broke a scoreless tie in the 64th minute with her first collegiate goal. With Miami's offense pressuring, EMU attempted to clear the ball, but Padfield intercepted the clearing pass and, with time, set up her shot and blasted the ball into the net from 30 yards out.

The Eagles scored the equalizer 16 minutes later when Michelle Roberts beat her Miami defender, 1v1, and toe-poked a ball at the goal. The shot handcuffed Ortner and found the back of the net. Roberts earned the assist, in setting up the game-tying goal.

Ortner made five saves in her third collegiate start, while suffering her first loss. Her counterpart, Nikki Allen, made six saves for EMU.

"We're really proud of Megan," said Kramig. "She has really stepped up to the challenge (of playing goalkeeper)."

With the loss, the RedHawks dropped to 2-6-1 against Eastern Michigan, and 0-4-1 in Ypsilanti.

Miami will continue its Michigan road swing, heading to Mt. Pleasant for a match on Sunday with Central Michigan. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
