OXFORD, Ohio - Four members of Miami University's women's swimming and diving team will represent their respective club teams at the Phillips 66 Summer National Championships, being held Aug. 5-9 in College Park, Md., head coach Dave Jennings announced today. Among the swimmers will be all-MAC first-team selections senior Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy), junior Trisha Lamb (Oregon, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) and sophomore Katie Unger (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead). Joining the trio is be sophomore Katie Forster (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville).
"We are very proud of these four," said Jennings. "Hopefully this will help in moving our swimmers up to another level, and increase our presence at the national level. We would like to see this as a springboard to winning the MAC Championship and taking more swimmers to the NCAA Championships."
Miranda is competing in the 1500 freestyle for the second consecutive year, after finishing 12th in 2002. Miranda, the MAC Champion in both the 500 and 1650 freestyle, also is entered in the 400 and 800 freestyle. Her team, the Trojan Swim Club from California, finished fourth in a field of 81 clubs last summer.
Lamb is competing in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events after winning both distances at the 2003 MAC Championships. Swimming for the Cincinnati Marlins, Lamb also will compete in the team's relay events.
Unger, who swims for the Phoenix Swim Club in Hartford, Wis., will compete in her team's relay events, as will Forster. Forster also will compete in the 400 freestyle for the Washington Township Recreation Club.
To be eligible for the Summer National Championships, a swimmer must have met the national qualifying standards for their respective events.
The women's swimming and diving team is coming of it's second consecutive MAC Championship, and MAC-record 14th overall. The RedHawks, which finished 14-3 last season, will open their season at the Tom Stubbs Relays at Bowling Green on Friday, Oct. 17.
