Miami Tennis Charges over Bulls, 6-1

March 28, 2003

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami tennis team played its first Mid-American Conference match in a month, rolling over the University at Buffalo, 6-1, this afternoon at the Hepburn Courts on the campus of Miami University. Freshman Maura Trauernicht ran her individual winning streak to four matches in the process, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Trauernicht wasn't the only RedHawk to roll in the match as Miami only allowed more than three points in just one of the six singles contests. Senior Megan Zimpfer set the tone, winning the No. 1 flight 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, the RedHawks swept play, taking the extra point. The No. 3 tandem of Grace Cascarilla and Trauernicht dominated Buffalo's team, rolling to an 8-0 victory. In the other two matches, Zimpfer and freshman Remy Swain and Nancy Wiegand and Ilze Meyer, both ran out to 8-3 wins.

The win evens Miami's MAC record at 1-1 on the year and 6-8 overall. The RedHawks close out their first MAC weekend of the year at the Hepburn Court tomorrow at 1 p.m. versus the University of Akron.
