Junior Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) learned on Monday that she has qualified for the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Ala. on March 20-22 in both the 1650-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Miranda set the qualifying times back on Nov. 22 at the Minnesota Invitational.
Miranda currently holds the 26th fastest time in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:30.70. Miranda enters the 500-yard freestyle with the nation's 50th fastest time, posting a 4:51.44 mark.
Freshman Katie Forster (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) actually has a better time in the 500-yard freestyle, which was strong enough for 36th place in the nation, but was unable to qualify for the NCAA championships race. Miranda earned her entrance into the 500-yard freestyle race due to her 1650-yard freestyle time. Forster is the second alternate for the NCAA Championships race.
Miranda recently earned first-team all-Mid-American Conference for the third consecutive year as she helped the RedHawks defend their MAC championship crown. Miranda also helped head coach Dave Jennings pass long time Miami golf coach, Rodger Cromer, for Miami's all-time lead for MAC titles with 12.
Miami will also be hosting the NCAA Zone Diving Championships at their diving well at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatics Center on Friday and Saturday.
