RedHawk Swimming in Second After Day One of Midwest Championships

The Miami women's swimming and diving team ended their first day of swimming on Thursday evening at the Midwest Classic Championships in second place. After day one in Indianapolis, Ind., the RedHawks stand in second place with 164 points behind Eastern Illinois who has 194.50 points.
In the third event of the day, sophomore Christen Fout (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) swam the 200-yard IM in 2:11.47 for the first place finish and 20 Miami points.
In the fifth and final event of the day, freshmen Rachel Binge (Littleton, Co./J.K. Mullen) and Julia Bayard (Los Angeles, Cal./Notre Dame Academy), Fout and senior Kelly Sexton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills) combined to win the 400-yard medley relay in 4:02.78 and give Miami 40 more points.
The Midwest Classic Championships will continue with prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
