OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) topped the field in both the preliminaries and finals of the 200 butterfly as Miami University's men's swimming team roared to a second-place finish at the 10th Annual Miami Invitational, after entering the final day in fourth place. The RedHawks finished behind Kenyon, the winner of the last 24 Division III National Championships, who repeated as Miami Invite champions.
Robson was the first RedHawk to top the prelimary field, turning in a 1:51.67 time in Sunday's morning session. At night, he finished less than a second ahead of senior Andrew Keefe (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) to capture the win.
Miami leapt into second place following the 200 breaststroke event. Freshman Griffin Marshall (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) finished third in the finals of the 200 breast, while five RedHawks competed in the consolation heat.
The RedHawks picked up ground on day two, picking up 103.5 points on third-place Emory. Marshall and fellow frosh Paul Ricard (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) finished third and fourth in their respective events. In the 100 breaststroke, Marshall swam to a third-place finals inish, while Ricard took fourth in the finals of the 200 freestyle. Miami also benefited from a pair of consolation heat wins from John Grubb (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) in the 100 backstoke and Keefe in the 100 freestyle.
Kenyon and Miami topped the eight-team field, while Johns Hopkins, Emory and Cincinnati rounded out the top five. Carnegie Mellon, Wheeling Jesuit and Lewis also competed.
On day one, Ricard took fourth in the 500 freestyle finals, while Keefe won the consolation heat of the 200 individual medley to lead Miami.
The RedHawks take the holidays off before heading to Florida for winter training, while the divers join women's swimming and diving coach Todd Spohn in Hawaii. Miami swimmers return to competition Jan. 8 at the Ed Kennedy Relays in Plantation, Fla.
