OXFORD, Ohio - The No. 14 Miami hockey team hosts its fifth annual Hockey Hysteria and skills competition this Saturday, Dec. 13, at 8 p.m. in Goggin Ice Arena. For the first time since the inception of the event five years ago, it will take place midway through the season.
The first 300 fans to enter Goggin Ice Arena will receive a free t-shirt, while all others will receive tickets for prize drawings throughout the afternoon. Prizes will include signed sticks, gift certificates and Official Miami Hockey T-shirts.
After the 2003-04 RedHawks are introduced, the players launch into a Miami version of the NHL skills competition. Events included in this year's competition are a faster skater race, puck control event, hardest shot, rapid fire/accuracy, and the always exciting breakaway competition.
The RedHawks take a break for final exams these next two weeks before resuming competition at the Dodge Holiday Classic in Minneapolis, Minn. on Dec. 20-21. Miami plays No. 5 New Hampshire in the first game on Saturday, at 4 p.m. in Minnesota's Mariucci Arena. Possible second game opponents are Minnesota and Princeton.
