MUNCIE, Ind. - Freshman Sarah Baumert (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and sophomore Christin Eberst (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) each won two events, while six other RedHawks had first-place showings, to lead Miami University's women's swimming & diving team to a 164-136 victory over Ball State, Saturday afternoon in Muncie.
After opening the season with a combined eight second-place finishes in breaststroke events, Baumert posted top honors in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Baumert posted a time of 1:07.65 in the 100, while hitting the wall at 2:25.23 in the 200. Sophomore Laura Armbruster (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) took second in the 200, while not competing in the 100. Armbruster, who had won four consecutive breast events, took first place in the 200 individual medley in 2:09.67.
Eberst dominated both diving events, winning from both the one- and three-meter boards. In winning her fourth and fifth diving events of the season, Eberst posted scores of 233.18 in one-meter diving, while scoring 226.50 points diving from three meters.
In the first running of the 1650 freestyle this season for Miami, senior Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) picked up where she left off last season when she was the MAC Champion in the event. After winning her last two 1000 free races, an event run in lieu of the 1650, Miranda paced the field in the 1650 in 17:19.23, just ahead of junior Julie Madden (Canton, Ohio/Hawken) in second place. The 1650 also marked the only event of the day for Miranda, who usually swims in the 500 free, as well.
In the absence of Miranda, who won the first three 500 free races this season, freshman Ashley Seymour (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) picked up the slack, finishing in 5:02.32, ahead of second-place Katie Forster (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville). Forster also picked up a win, taking first place in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 1:55.75.
Sophomore Katie Unger (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and junior Trisha Lamb (Oregon, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) also won events for Miami. Unger finished first in the 100 free, ahead of teammate Christel Fantz (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) in second. In the 200 backstroke, Lamb and redshirt freshman Maggi Bulla (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) also finished one-two for the Red and White.
The RedHawks have a two-week lay-off before hitting the pool at Wright State on Friday, Nov. 21. Miami then returns home to host Xavier on Saturday, Nov. 22. Meet times are set for 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
