CLEVELAND, Ohio - Miami University's men's swimming & diving team dropped its first dual meet of the season, 136-107, to Cleveland State in non-conference action, Friday night in Cleveland.
The RedHawks' young lineup won just four events on the night, but used its depth to remain in the meet. Freshmen Paul Ricard and Griffin Marshall each won the first events of their collegiate careers, with Ricard taking first place in tge 500 freestyle, and Marshall pacing the field in the 100 breaststroke. Ricard posted a time of 4:39.82, while Marshall won his event in 57.67.
Senior Andrew Keefe and sophomore Aaron Wuensch also won events, as Keefe topped the field in the 200 free and Wuensch won the 100 butterfly. Keefe finished ahead of second-place Warren Vickers, a five-time league champion last year for CSU, in a time of 1:41.68. Wuensch hit the wall in 52.47, ahead of a Viking and three RedHawks in the third through fifth places.
The Red and White's depth was evident in the diving events, as Miami placed divers in the second, third and fourth places in both the one- and three-meter events. Zach Niehaus claimed second in the one-meter, ahead of Nick Kleinert in third and Eric Teske in fourth. In the three-meter, Kleinert took second-place honors, ahead of Niehaus in third and Teske in fourth.
