Box Score

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Kim Grodek's goal just 63 seconds into the second half proved to be the difference as Miami University's women's soccer team fell to Indiana, 2-1, in the RedHawks' season finale Friday night in Bloomington.

The Hoosiers (8-8-1) dominated the tempo of the game, gaining the edge in both shots, 7-3, and corner kicks, 12-7. The RedHawk (7-9-2) were unable to mount much of an attack on the slick, rain-soaked field.

After coming out of halftime with the game knotted at one, Grodek took a Kristen Zmijewski pass and pushed it past second-half sub Leigh Terry (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven). The goal went on to become the game-winner for Indiana.

Trailing 1-0, Miami got on the board with 23 seconds remaining in the first half. After an IU offensive push, junior Ashley Swinehart (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington) took a loose ball almost the length of the field, outrunning a majority of the Indiana defenders. Two steps into the 18-yard box, Swinehart was taken down, and Miami was awarded a penalty kick. Freshman Kathleen Vistica (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) converted the PK to tie the game, 1-1, heading into the half. It was Vistica's sixth goal of the season, and second PK goal in as many games.

Indiana had kicked off the scoring two minutes earlier, in the 43rd minute. The Hoosiers took multiple shots on freshman Megan Ortner (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula), before Ali Brown was able to put the ball in the net, off a Missy Vierling pass.

Ortner made a pair of saves for Miami, while Shaunna Daugherty made the lone IU save in the win. Terry and Indiana's Stacey Van Boxmeer each played the second half, recording three and one save, respectively.

The Red and White finished the regular season at 7-9-2, marking the first losing season for Miami soccer since 1998.
