Box Score

OXFORD, Ohio - Senior Ashley Swinehart (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington) and freshman Kathleen Vistica (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) each scored two goals in leading Miami University's women's soccer team to a 4-3 victory against Toledo, Friday afternoon at Miami Soccer Field.

The RedHawks (4-5-1, 3-3-0 MAC) held the offensive edge in the highly-physical match. Miami edged the Rockets (5-6-0, 3-3-0 MAC) in both shots, 13-9, and corner kicks, 6-0. The game was marred by 35 total fouls, with 21 being called on the Red and White.

Vistica scored the game-winner in the 70th minute, approximately 80 seconds after Toledo knotted the score at 3-3. Senior Tricia Gill (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) started the play with a free kick she sent into the box from 30 yards out. Vistica's first attempt at a shot was unsuccessful, but she sent her second attempt past Rocket keeper Jen Whipple for the goal.

Toledo began the scoring in the 10th minute, when Melissa Lesage took a Kelly Langenbeck pass and beat a Miami defender, 1v1, to get her shot on freshman goalkeeper, Megan Ortner (Cincinnati, Ohio/St, Ursula). Ortner was off her line to stop the attempt, and was beaten far post.

After playing down a goal for 22 minutes, Vistica and Swinehart scored goals 57 seconds apart, in the 32nd and 33rd minutes, to give the Red and White a 2-1 halftime advantage. Vistica scored the game's first equalizer, taking a Katie Boyd (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) pass and, with a man-on, finding the back of the net past Whipple. Swinehart's tally followed shortly after when she connected with Laura Freel (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) from just oustide the six-yard box.

Lesage and Langenbeck hooked up again to tie the game at 2-2 shortly after halftime. In the 49th minute, the Rockets took advantange of confusion in front of the Miami net, when Lesage fed Langenbeck for the goal.

Swinehart scored her second goal of the game, putting the RedHawks up 3-2 in the 52nd minute. Freshman Brittney Brinkworth (Amhert, NY/Amherst) sent a ball far post, where Swinehart took the ball, set her self, and beat the keeper among a pair of defenders.

The score was tied for the third time, this time at 3-3, in the 69th, when Robin Davidson added an unassisted goal for Toledo.

Miami's next match is Sunday, when the RedHawks host Bowling Green. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.

Notes: Brinkworth and Boyd's assists were their first collegiate points ... Vistica has created all four of Miami's game-winners on the season, assisting on the first three and tallying her first GW goal today.
