OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore Katie Forster (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) won both the 1000 free and 200 fly, but it wasn't enough as Miami University's women's swimming and diving team fell to Purdue University, 188-112, Wednesday night at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
Forster won her first event of the young season, finishing the 1000 free with a time of 10:22.25, ahead of teammates Julie Madden (Canton, Ohio/Hawken) in third and Liz Roble (Englewood, Colo./Kent) in fourth place. In the 200 fly, Forster swam a time of 2:04.82 in winning her second event of the evening, this time ahead of fellow RedHawks Katie Unger (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Michelle Reynolds (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) in the third and fourth positions, respectively.
A pair of freshmen swam well, as Ashley Seymour (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.15, while Sarah Baumert (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) was close behind at 1:07.55. Sophomore Laura Armbruster (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) finished third in the event at 1:07.63. Baumert also finished second in the 200 breast, just ahead of Unger in third and Armbruster in fourth.
Senior NCAA-qualifier Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) won the 500 freestyle event, while fellow NCAA-qualifier Christin Eberst (Clifton, Ny/Shenendehowa) finished second in the one-meter diving.
The RedHawks return to action Friday, Oct. 31, at Buffalo, before traveling to Akron on Saturday. Both dual meets are part of Miami's conference schedule, and will begin at 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
