Rubber Bowl-Akron, Ohio
Team Notes
- With the win, Miami moved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the MAC for the fourth consecutive time under head coach Terry Hoeppner. Miami increased its series advantage 9-4-1 and won at the Rubber Bowl for just the third time in six games.
- Miami's 48 points were a season high and the most it has scored in seven games, dating back to last season's 52-51 loss at Hawai'i. The 41 points in a MAC game were Miami's most since a 45-14 defeat of Kent State in 2000.
- In falling behind 14-0, Miami surrendered two first-quarter touchdowns for the first time this season.
- Miami rallied from a 14-point deficit for the first time since it trailed Ohio, 21-7, in 2001 and rallied for a 36-24 win.
- The RedHawks' 20 unanswered points in the first half are the most unanswered points scored by the Red and White in a game this season and the most since reeling off 21 consecutive points in last season's 24-21 win at Bowling Green.
- Miami, which had just six sacks in its first four games, sacked Akron quarterback Charlie Frye a season-high four times on the night.
- Miami scored touchdowns on each of its first four possessions in the second half.
Individual Notes
- Senior defensive tackle Ryan Terry's second-quarter fumble recovery in the Akron endzone, which was set up by senior Matt Edwards' quarterback sack and put Miami ahead for good, was the first touchdown of Terry's career and the first Miami defensive touchdown this season.
- Sophomore place kicker Jared Parseghian, who was good on two first-half field goals, has converted all five of his attempts this season. Last season, Miami converted just eight-of-18 field goal attempts.
- After starting the game with three straight incomplete passes, sophomore quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed his next nine. He finished the game at 16-of-22 for 240 yards and two touchdowns and has completed at least one pass for a touchdown in 16 of his 17 career games.
- With his 240 yards passing and 254 yards of total offense, Roethlisberger continued his climb on the Miami career charts. Tonight he surpassed former quarterback Neil Dougherty (1991-95) for third all-time in career passing yardage (4,285 yards) and Deland McCullough (1992-95) for fifth all-time in total offense (4,477 yards).
- Korey Kirkpatrick's career-long 50-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter was his second of the season and third of his career. It was Miami's longest play of the season.
- Junior running back Luke Clemens, who scored three TDs, recorded multiple touchdowns for the third time in five games this season and notched back-to-back 100-yard rushing efforts for the first time in his career. He finished the game with 135 yards rushing on 24 carries and has 306 yards rushing and five touchdowns over the past two games.
- Sophomore Michael Larkin caught four passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. He has a reception in each of his first 16 collegiate games and a touchdown in four of Miami's five games this season.
