STAMFORD, Conn. - Swimmer Emily Nayes (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) was named a third-team Verizon Academic All-District IV University Division Women's At-Large selection, it was announced Thursday, May 16. She is the first female swimmer to receive the honor since classmate Hillary Mason (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls), in 2000.
Nayes garnered first-team all-Mid-American Conference accolades for the third year in a row, following her performance at the MAC meet, in which she took home two individual championships, met two NCAA qualifying standards, set three school records and helped the RedHawks capture their 12th MAC crown. She won the 200 breast and 400 individual medley titles, made the NCAA 'B' cut in the 200 and 400 IM, and established Miami marks in both of those events as well as the 800 medley relay, which placed third.
Nayes graduated earlier this month with a 3.62 GPA in speech pathology and audiology.
The Academic All-District squad is comprised of 30 members, divided into a first, second and third team. Eligibile student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. The team is chosen by a vote of the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America within each district.
