OXFORD, Ohio - Bowling Green starter Jessie Milosek held Miami in check for most of the game and Holly Frantz launched a backbreaking home run as the Falcons avoided a three-game sweep, beating the RedHawks, 4-1, Monday afternoon at Miami Softball Field.
Milosek kept Miami (14-29, 6-9) off the board until there were two outs in the bottom of the seventh. A single by sophomore Jacque Molinaro (Follinsbee, W.Va./Brooke), followed by an RBI double by freshman Sarah Buffie (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) led to the RedHawks' only run of the game.
Bowling Green (14-20-1, 5-9) went up 1-0 in the top of the first when Renee Rosemeier drilled a double off the centerfield fence that scored Natalie Phillips.
The count remained the same until the sixth, when Crystal Wilson blooped a two-out single to left, plating Phillips. Frantz followed that up with her first career round-tripper, a two-run shot to left-center, giving Bowling Green a 4-0 lead.
Freshman Jackie Poggendorf (Phoenix, Ariz./Shadow Mountain) took the loss, dropping her record to 12-16. She gave up six hits and struck out one in six innings of work.
Miami travels to Dayton on Wednesday, April 17 for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
