CINCINNATI - Miami's women's track and field team finished first with 182 points at the Cincinnati Invitational Saturday, March 30 at the Meyers Track Complex. Three RedHawks - junior Brienne Wade (Papillion, Neb./LaVista), sophomore Bernitta Johnson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) and freshman Sarah Correll (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) - won their respective events.
Wade took top honors in the pole vault, clearing 11-0. Freshman Tabitha Schwartz (Concord, Va./Appomatox) backed her up in second, posting a height of 10-6.
In addition to winning the triple jump with a mark of 38-9, Johnson claimed second in the long jump (17-5 1/4), ran a leg of the runner-up 4x100 relay (48.39) and placed fifth in the 100 (12.58).
Running in her first collegiate outdoor race, Correll outdistanced the competition in the 800, crossing the finish line in 2:17.69.
Another outstanding meet was had by sophomore Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central), who picked up three top-five finishes. She took second in the shot put (44-9), third in the discus (138-3) and fourth in the hammer (151-4).
Sophomore Erika Harper (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) also ran well, collecting two thirds, one in the 100 (12.42) and the other in the 200 (25.46).
The RedHawks take to the track Saturday, April 6 at the Clemson Invitational.
