OXFORD, Ohio - After 29 straight power plays against the Miami University (9-11-2, 6-8-2 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) hockey team without a goal, the visiting Ferris State Bulldogs decided to score with less men on the ice to earn a 2-0 victory in Miami's Goggin Ice Arena on Saturday night. FSU ended its power-play drought in the third period with an insurance goal at 12:22 to gain their eighth conference victory of the season.

After two periods of scoreless action, Chris Kunitz picked up his 19th goal of the season when he lit the lamp on a short-handed breakaway opportunity at 8:49 in the third frame. This was all the help that Bulldog goalie Mike Brown needed as he stopped 27 shots en route to his fifth victory of the season.

Ferris State added another goal to its tally when Trevor Large finished off a rebounded shot on FSU's fifth power play of the contest. Large's goal was the first power-play goal scored by Ferris State in 29 chances against the Redhawks, a streak dating back to last year's contest on Jan. 12, 2001. The Bulldogs second goal also ended Miami's streak of 20 penalties without allowing a power-play goal in the last five games.

Despite being outdone by FSU's Brown in net, junior David Burleigh (North Vancouver, BC) set a personal best in the contest with 37 saves. His previous mark was 26 saves against Lake Superior on Nov. 24, 2000. Burleigh finished the weekend stopping 65 of 67 Ferris State shots.

The Ferris State victory evens the series between the two schools at 33-33-11. Miami hits the road as it travels to Lake Superior State for a weekend tilt, Jan. 18-19, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
