OXFORD, Ohio -- On graduation Sunday and Senior Recognition Day at Miami University, junior Jason Knoedler (Springfield, Ill./Springfield) led the RedHawks to a weekend sweep over Akron with a five-for-five performance in Miami's (29-21, 14-10 MAC) 27-9 victory. Knoedler broke a Red and White single season record for the second consecutive day by recording his 84th hit on his first at bat. Knoedler now holds the Miami single season record with 88 knocks. This was also the first four-game sweep of a series since 1999 when Miami swept Akron on May 15-16.

The RedHawks crossed the plate three times during the first inning as Knoedler registered Miami's first run on a wild pitch. Senior Jeremy Ison (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) knocked in the second run of the inning with a double to left center. He would come around to score the third run of the stanza on a ground out to second base.

The abuse of Akron's pitching staff continued in the second inning as Knoedler doubled home Miami's fourth run of the contest. The Red and White would score six run's in the bottom of the second on five hits and one error while hitting nothing greater than a double. Knoedler added one more run to the RedHawks' total in the third with his 14th home run of the season to give Miami a 10-0 advantage.

The Zips joined the hitting exhibition in the fourth by touching Miami's starter, sophomore Chris Leonard (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales), for seven runs on eight hits and two errors. Leonard would eventually be credited with the win to bring his season record to 9-2. Left fielder Ty Moorhead was the only Akron player to register two hits during the fourth with a lead off double down the left field line and a single in his second plate appearance.

In the bottom half of the fourth, Miami matched the Zips' seven run inning by scoring seven more of its own. In an inning that featured three fielding errors, the Red and White batted around the order for five hits. Again, nothing greater than a double was hit by Miami.

The next two innings slowed down a bit as both teams score one run on three hits and four hits, respectively. Ison registered Miami's lone run during this stretch with a solo shot in the sixth, his 11th of the season. The RedHawk lineup exploded for the second time during the game as they added nine more runs to their total in the seventh inning. Knoedler recorded two hits during the barage and senior Clark Mace (London, Ohio/Madison Plains) belted his ninth round-tripper of the 2001 campaign to bring home three more.

After 36 runs, 35 total hits, eight errors, and three and a half hours of baseball, Miami completed the weekend sweep of Akron to improve to 14-10 in the Mid-American Conference. The Zips fall to 6-17 in the MAC after dropping all four contests in Oxford this weekend.

Miami will host a home contest at 3 p.m. versus Dayton on Monday, May 7.
