Eight Miami Swimmers Qualify for Thursday Night's Finals

OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University's men's swimming and diving team finished Thursday's preliminary events with eight swimmers qualifying for the finals in the three different events at the Mid-American Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Red and White finished with the fastest times in all three preliminary events, which were the 500 yard freestyle, 200 yard individual medley and 50 yard freestyle.
Junior John Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis) finished the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:29.67. His first-place time was two seconds faster then fellow RedHawk Kevin Mulgrew (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic), who qualified second with a time of 4:31.73.
Juniors Eric DiSalle (Maumee, Ohio/St. Francis) and Jason Finck (Villa Hills, Ky./Beechwood) qualified in first and second-place, respectively, in the 200 yard individual medley. DiSalle finished with a time of 1:49.93, which was a little more than a second behind the MAC record (1:48.62). Finck finished less than two seconds behind DiSalle, finishing with a time of 1:51.17.
Senior Will Sensenbrenner (Champaign, Ill./Central) qualified first for Miami in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 20.07.
MAC-rival Eastern Michigan qualified 10 swimmers for tonight's finals, which was the most of any team.
The finals for both swimming and diving begin at 7 p.m.
