Miami Takes Second-Place at MAC Swimming and Diving Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Miami University's women's swimming and diving team ended its season on a positive note by finishing second at the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The Red and White fell by a narrow 45 points (702-657) to Ohio. The Bobcats have now won two consecutive championships.
Freshman Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) joined senior Molly Wiethorn (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) as the only two Miami swimmers to win an individual championship. Miranda took first-place in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:39.36. Both Miranda and Wiethorn were named first-team all-MAC at the end of the meet.
Miranda's first-place finish B-cut qualifying time for the NCAA Swimming Championships. in the 1,650 freestyle. On Thursday evening, she B-cut qualifying time in the 500 freestyle.
Junior Emily Nayes (Eden Prarie, Minn./Eden Prarie), who was also named first-team all-MAC, finished second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.44.
Junior Kelly Janura (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.93. Janura was honored at the end of the night with second-team all-MAC plaudits. Junior Hillary Mason (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) and sophomore Lyndsay Barnes (Lexington, Ky./Dunbar) joined Janura on the second-team all-MAC.
