Wiethorn and Mason Lead Miami Into Day Two Finals

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Miami University's women's swimming and diving team will be looking for two things Friday evening at the Mid-American Conference Championships. First, Miami looks to stay close to Ohio in the team competition, where the Bobcats lead the Red and White by a mere 17 points (236-219). Second, the RedHawks' are looking for its first individual champion.
Senior Molly Wiethorn (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) and Suzy Riley (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) both qualified Friday morning for the finals in the 400 yard individual medley. Wiethorn finished third in the preliminaries with a time of 4:30.35, while Riley ended the preliminaries in fifth spot with a time of 4:30.75.
Sophomore Lyndsay Barnes (Lexington, Ky./Dunbar) turned in the fastest time for Miami in the 100 yard butterfly finishing in 57.57. This time put her in ninth-place overall in the event.
Junior Hillary Mason (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) looks to redeem herself after last night's seventh-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle when she goes for the championship in the 200 yard freestyle. Mason finished second in the preliminaries with a time of 1:52.87.
Junior Emily Nayes (Eden Prarie, Minn./Eden Prarie) also looks to redeem herself after finishing second in last night's 200 yard individual medley when go for a championship in the 100 yard breaststroke. Nayes finished this morning with a time of 1:05.00, which was the third fastest.
