RedHawks Ice Cold In 60-23 Loss To Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Keith Waleskowski came off the bench for 13 points and 11 rebounds as Dayton routed cold-shooting Miami 60-23 Saturday night.

The RedHawks (3-8) made only 8-of-60 shots (13 percent) from the field and shot 3-of-33 (9 percent) in the first half to fall behind 20-8, their fewest points in a half ever.

Thirteen RedHawks played, but only five scored. Larry Drake and Brian Edwards led Miami with six points apiece. Alex Shorts shot 0-for-11, Danny Horace went 1-for-10 and Doug Davis was 0-for-8.

The RedHawks missed their first 16 shots, had five assists against nine turnovers and were outrebouned 52-33.

Dayton (8-3) had already built an 11-0 lead by the time Miami got its first points on Larry Drake's 3-pointer with 10:22 left in the first half.

Ben Helmers' 3-pointer made it 11-6, but the RedHawks never got closer than seven points the rest of the way. The Flyers led by as many as 40 points - 56-16 - in the second half.

Waleskowski scored eight points in the first half, matching Miami's total. Ramod Marshall added 11 points for the Flyers.

The 28 total points in the first half tied the Miami record for the fewest points scored in a half by two teams. Miami and Toledo also combined for 28 points in the first half of a game in 1962.

Miami's previous low for points in a half was 11 in the first half of a 63-30 loss to Cincinnati in 1961.
