ATHENS, Ohio - Hampered by injuries and soggy conditions, Miami University's women's soccer team was unable to overcome a talented Ohio University team Friday afternoon at the Bobcats' Shafer Street Field, falling 2-0.

"We played hard," head coach Bobby Kramig said. "I thought our kids really sucked it up and played through some difficult conditions. We've had a lot of injuries to our backfield in recent weeks, including Courtney Carey, Tricia Gill and Katie Mach, who all missed time today. There's no question we're struggling to adjust to that."

Ohio stole the match's momentum early on, recording the first goal just 15 minutes into the contest. Forward Christel Schiering beat Miami goalkeeper Caitlin Wolf (Fairfield, Ohio/Dayton) with a scorching shot into the left corner of the net. From there the Bobcat defense took over, limiting the RedHawks to just two shots on goal the remainder of the match. Ohio's Crystal Reed put the match out of reach in the 84th minute when she headed in an Abby Leopold corner kick.

The RedHawks, who previously were 6-0 when playing at an opponent's venue, dropped their first MAC road match of the season, while tumbling to 7-5-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the Mid-American Conference. Miami was shut out for the third time this season.

"We're banged up right now, but we're still working hard," Kramig said. "We just need to get through this, and I know we will. I have no question about the character of this team. Before it's over, we'll be right where we need to be."

Miami, which has struggled with injuries to five of its top six defenders this season, attempts to regain the winning edge this Sunday when it travels to Huntington, W.Va., to face the University of Marshall in another key MAC contest. The RedHawks are going in search of their first victory at Marshall.
