Women's Swimming and Diving Squad Falls at Oakland

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - An abbreviated Miami University women's swimming and diving squad fell Friday evening to Mid-Continent Conference foe Oakland 176-98. The RedHawks were shorthanded on Friday as half the team was traveling to Toledo for Saturday's Mid-American Conference dual meet with the Rockets and the Zips of Akron.
Freshman Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) was one of two RedHawks to win an individual event. Miranda took first-place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:10.97. She also finished second in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:15.69. Senior Suzy Riley (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) took first in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.67.
In the evening's final event, Miranda, senior Jennifer Schneider (Troy, Mich./Troy), sophomore Kelly Sexton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills) and freshman Katie Scott (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) teamed up to win the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.17.
Following Saturday's meet with Toledo and Akron, the RedHawks are back in action at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26 against Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
