Miami Swimming and Diving Squads Fall to Cincinnati

Junior Hillary Mason (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) was the first women take home first-place as she won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 10:20.23. Freshman Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) finished right behind Mason with a time of 10:24.68 to take second. Junior Emily Nayes (Eden Prarie, Minn./Eden Prarie) continued to stay strong on the season in the 200 yard individual medley by taking first with a time of 2:08.68. Nayes followed up her 200 IM victory with a first-place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.05. The RedHawks closed out the evening by winning the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.45.
Miami's men's team (4-4) first win of the night came from sophomore Kelly Ball (Granger, Ind./Penn), who took first-place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.16. Junior Kevin Mulgrew (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic) gave the RedHawks a first-place finish in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.69. Junior Dylan Nichols (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) closed out the winning for Miami by winning the one-meter diving competition with a score of 189.90.
The women's team is back in action at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19 against Oakland and at 1 p.m. Saturday against Akron and Toledo in a Mid-American Conference meet. The men are back in action at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19 against MAC rival Toledo and at 1 p.m. Saturday against Division III power Kenyon.
