A 1992 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan, Googins has served as an assistant coach at Indiana since 1992, working primarily with the coaching and conditioning of the Hoosier catchers.
Googins also has served as a baseball camp instructor at Miami, Indiana, Emory and Southern Maryland. Furthermore, Googins gained experience working with the Columbus Clippers during the summer of 1992, assisting with ticket requests, gameday preparations and public relations.
While at Ohio Wesleyan, Googins received three varsity letters while catching for the Battling Bishops.
"It was an easy decision for me to make," said Smith. "He has over eight years experience in the Big Ten and we are grateful to have not only a great coach but also a person I've known on a personal level for five years."
