Leading the RedHawk women was freshman Briana Shook (Tiffin, Ohio/Seneca East), who dominated the distance events with wins in the 1,500-meter run (4:42) and 3,000-meter run (10:02.98). Also winning events for the Miami women were Kate Christoff (Lima, Ohio/Central Catholic), who won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.89, and Helen Kilfoyle (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), who took the pole vault title with an effort of 9'-6".
Second-place finishes were claimed by Sara Edwards (Centerville, Ohio/Kettering Alter) in the 800-meter run (2:17.37), Kristen Fryburg (Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Alter) in the 5,000-meter run (17:51.90), Meghan Gilhooly (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) in the high jump (5'-1") and Katie Hanley (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) in the long jump (17'-5.5").
On the men's side, the RedHawks' only individual title came from senior Jeff Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East), who prevailed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:29.56). The other Miami second-place finishers on the men's side included Nick Iagulli (Toledo, Ohio/Southview) in the 800-meters (1:53.41), Brian Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) in the 5,000-meter run (14:43.71), Javin Tucker (Trotwood, Ohio/Madison) in the 400-meter hurdles (53.87) and Justin Hussel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) in the steeplechase.
Dore' Debartolo of Notre Dame enjoyed perhaps the most outstanding performance of the day, throwing a meet and track record 182'-10" in the women's hammer throw. Her effort bettered the previous mark by 13'-11". The meet, which also included competitors from Butler, Cedarville, Cincinnati, Kent, Louisville, Notre Dame, Ohio and Xavier, was not scored due to inclement weather conditions.
Miami returns to action next weekend, when both the men's and women's teams compete for the Southern Ohio Cup versus Cincinnati and Ohio in a USCTA Series event hosted by Cincinnati.
