MUNCIE IND.- The RedHawks traveled to Muncie, Ind. to compete in the Ball State We Fly Challenge meet this weekend. Kate Hallie made history by throwing the furthest discus mark by a RedHawk ever, 50.95m. Ben Riegel worked his way up the top 10 list in hammer, throwing the fifth-best all-time mark of 58.88m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Friday
- Ben Riegel threw the fifth-best all-time throw for a RedHawk in hammer, with an impressive mark of 58.88m, placing second. Blake Presley posted the fourth-place mark of 53.98m. Gabe Asbury and Owen Billeter finished sixth and seventh with marks of 53.87 and 53.47, respectively. Reilly Worthington finished in 10th place with a mark of 49.20m.
- In women's hammer, Hallie placed seventh at 46.78m and Sophia Ili threw 38.92m.
- In men's high jump, Nate Hollingsworth secured the bronze with a jump of 1.90m.
- In men's discus, Worthington led the Miami men with a third-place throw of 45.39m. Billeter (44.86), Riegel (42.94) and Lorek (41.67) followed in fifth, 10th and 12th place.
- Hallie set a school record and won the discus event, putting her name in the history books with a throw of 50.95m. Caroline Kagy threw 41.32m for sixth place and Kristen Berwanger threw 40.16m for ninth place.
- Ella Garvin's jump of 1.73m secured her a third-place finish in high jump.
- Matthew Howard took the first-place finish in javelin with a throw of 55.70m and CJ Johnson Jr. took fourth with a throw of 50.02m.
- In women's javelin, Maggie Dougherty's throw of 40.15m earned her first place and Allie Melchiorre's throw of 36.46m earned her fifth.
Saturday
- Kirk Knecht long jumped 6.53m for a ninth-place finish.
- Kylie Adams took fifth place in long jump with a mark of 5.58m and Maya Reed took 13th with a mark of 5.28m.
- Hallie threw 14.02m in shot put for fourth place, Ili threw 12.43m for 12th and Ava Luczak threw 11.96m for 24th.
- The Miami men swept the podium in shot put with Riegel (16.98m) placing first, David Lorek (16.14m) placing second, Presley (16.02m) placing third and Worthington (15.96m) placing fifth.
- The 4x100 team of Camryn Dunn, Riley Betz, Maya Reed and Lauren Jessup-Aiken finished in third place with a time of 42.12 seconds.
- In the 110 hurdles, Jaxson Tober placed second with a time of 15.23 seconds and Broderick Brittle placed fifth with a time of 15.62 seconds.
- Madison Berger, Kylie Adams and Ella Garvin all competed in the 100 hurdles. Berger (12th) ran a time of 15.57, Adams (17th) ran a time of 16.03 and Garvin (18th) ran a time of 16.27.
- In the men's 400, Micah Schuster took fourth place with a finishing time of 48.95 seconds.
- In the women's 400, Keena Sanders finished the race in 57.64 seconds for sixth place, Olivia Cebalo finished the race in 58.35 seconds for ninth and Sophia Scavuzzo finished the race in 59.82 seconds for 18th place.
- R'Monee Brown and Mitchell Wiemuth competed in the 100m dash, finishing in 11.36 seconds for 20th place and 11.40 seconds for 24th place, respectively.
- In the women's 100m, Betz led the RedHawk women, finishing in sixth place with a time of 12.36 seconds, Dunn finished in eighth with a time of 12.39 seconds, Jessup-Aiken finished in 11th with a time of 12.56 seconds and Kate Pratt finished in 31st with a time of 12.99 seconds.
- Tober and Brittle competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 1:00.73 and 1:02.59 for 10th and 14th places, respectively.
- Mae Reed (1:03.96) and Garvin (1:04.12) placed sixth and seventh place, respectively. Berger finished in 1:06.51 for 15th place.
- Schuster and Brown competed in the 200m running 22.85 and 23.54 seconds, respectively.
- Grace Streek ran a 4:39.37 in the 1500 for 10th place.
