Miami Falls Short On Final Day Of MAC Championships

ATHENS, OHIO -- Miami University's string of four consecutive Mid-American Conference Championships came to a halt on Saturday as the Hawks were unable to overcome Ohio University in Athens. Miami finished with 733.5 points, good enough for second place. The Bobcats tallied 816 points en route to their eight MAC Championship, including their first since 1995.
Junior Cassie Eakins (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) captured her second individual MAC Championship of the year, diving to gold in the three-meter event. Eakins earned 443.8 points.
Eakins joined senior Amanda Furlano (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus Academy) and sophomore Emily Nayes (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) on the all-MAC first team. Earning second-team all-MAC plaudits were senior Katherine Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne), junior Suzy Riley (Westwood, Mass./Westwood), and sophomores Colleen Rambasek (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) and Kelly Janura (Barrington, Ill./Barrington). Miami diving coach Todd Spohn was named the MAC Diving Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year for the RedHawk women's team.
