Miami Swimming and Diving Teams Stand Third at Miami Invitational

The RedHawks' men's team trails Cincinnati, who is in second-place, by a score of 519.50-465 and Kenyon, who is in first-place, 578.50-519.50. Following Miami is Ball State, who is in fourth position, Johns Hopkins, Wright State, Clarion, Emory, Wheeling Jesuit, Oberlin and Lewis. Miami's women's team trails Kenyon, who is in second, 430.50-356 and Illinois, who has distance itself from the rest of the pack, 719.50-356. The RedHawks lead Indiana, Cincinnati, Ball State, Clarion, Emory, Lewis, Wheeling Jesuit, Wright State and Oberlin.
Junior Dylan Nichols (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), who was the 2000 Mid-American Conference Champion on both the one- and three-meter boards, completed the sweep in the diving portion of the meet. Nichols, who won on the one-meter board Friday, was victorious on the three-meter board with a score of 497.35.
Senior Cassie Eakins (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) took home second-place in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 248.60. Eakins fell short to MAC rival Beth Clark of Ball State, who finished with a score of 293.05.
The 800 freestyle relay team of juniors Eric DiSalle (Maumee, Ohio/St.Francis) and John Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis), sophomore Kelly Ball (Granger, Ind./Penn) and freshman David Fraas (Ashland, Ohio/St. Francis) finished in third-place with a time of 6:48.04.
Senior Suzy Riley (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) finished in fifth-place in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:33.71. Junior Emily Nayes (Eden Prarie, Minn./Eden Prarie) took home seventh in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.76.
The final day of competition kicks off at 9:30 a.m. Sunday with preliminary rounds. The finals will start at 6 p.m.
