Miami Squads Stand Second After First Day of Miami Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams stand second in the overall team standings after the first day of the seventh annual Miami Invitational.
Miami's men's team trails Kenyon by a score of 222-210.50, while the women are down to Illinois 292-169. Trailing the RedHawks' men's team is Cincinnati, followed by Ball State, Clarion, Johns Hopkins, Wright State, Emory, Wheeling Jesuit, Oberlin and Lewis. The RedHawks' women's team leads Kenyon, Indiana, Clarion, Cincinnati, Ball State, Wheeling Jesuit, Emory, Lewis, Wright State and Oberlin.
Out of the six event finals for both the men's and women's competitions, Miami sophomore Dylan Nichols (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) was the only winner. Nichols was victorious in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 398.50.
The men's 200 freestyle relay team of juniors Ryan Gandre (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman), Eric DiSalle (Maumee, Ohio/St. Francis), Jason Finck (Villa Hills, Ky./Beechwood) and sophomore Jon Parenteau (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxboro) finished second for Miami with a time of 1:23.18. Disalle also took home fourth-place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:52.10. Senior Will Sensenbrenner (Champaign, Ill./Central) placed third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.82.
The women's team was led by junior Kelly Janura (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), who finished in fourth-place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.13. Senior Cassie Eakins (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) took home fifth-place, out of 15 participants, in the three-meter diving competition with a score of 393.35. Junior Hillary Mason (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) placed sixth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:02.32.
The second day of the Miami Invitational kicks off Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with preliminary events. The finals session will start at 6:30 p.m.
