Miami Swimming and Diving Teams Defeat Wright State

The RedHawks were led by senior Cassie Eakins (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) and sophomore Dylan Nichols (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), who were both victorious on the one- and three-meter diving boards. Eakins finished the one-meter competition with a score of 256.80 and the three-meter with a score of 267.68. Nichols edged out Wright State diver Trevor Downing by a score of 269.25 to 263.48. Nichols won the three-meter competition with a score of 265.50.
Junior Kevin Mulgrew (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic) took home first-place honors in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:36.39. Freshman Brad Bartel (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) edged out Miami junior Jason Finck (Villa Hills, Ky./Beechwood) in the 200 IM. Bartel won with a time of 1:56.82, while Finck had a time of 156:91. Junior John Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis) ran away with the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:49.89. Freshman Andrew Keefe (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) took home first-place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.83.
On the women's side, freshman Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:21.78. The closest finisher was Wright State swimmer Julie Coghlan, who finished with a time of 10:32.54. Miami went one, two, three in the 50 freestyle with junior Kelly Janura (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) taking first-place with a time of 24.65. Sophomores Kristen Sivard (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and Jackie Hiltman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) finished second and third, respectively. Sophomore Lyndsay Barnes (Lexington, Ky./Dunbar) was victorious in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.92, while junior Hillary Mason (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) won the 500 freestyle with a time 5:04.85.
The men's team is back in action against Penn State at 2 p.m. Saturday, in State College, Penn. The women compete in the Indiana Invitational, November 17-19 in Bloomington, Ind.
