Miami Women's Swimming and Diving Team Finishes Third

OXFORD, Ohio (November 12) -- Miami University's women's swimming and diving team finished third out of four teams at a quadrangular meet that included Kenyon, Notre Dame and Pitt. The RedHawks defeated Kenyon, 198-102, and fell to Notre Dame, 223-77, and Pitt, 175.5-122.5.
Miami was paced by eight top three finishes on the night. Amanda Furlano (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus Academy) led the way, earning second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Kelly Janura (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) posted strong performances in the 50 and 100 freestyles, where she placed third and second respectively. Emily Nayes (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) picked up third-place times in the 200 breast and 400 individual medley to round out Miami's multiple event top-three finishers. Also picking up top-three finishes for the RedHawks were Jennifer Schneider (Troy, Mich./Troy), who finished third in the 100 backstroke and Hillary Mason (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls), who clocked a second-place time in the 500 free.
Notre Dame dominated the meet, collecting first-place finishes in all but two of the 16 events. Three Irish swimmers captured won multiple events on the night, with Kristen Van Saun winning the 1,650 and 500 freestyles, Carrie Nixon claiming the 50 and 100 freestyles and Amy Deger taking the 100 butterfly and 400 IM.
Miami hits the pool again on Dec. 2-4, when it hosts the sixth annual Miami Invitational.
