Jacob Calai

Jacob Calai joined the Miami Volleyball program as the coordinator of volleyball operations in August 2022.

Calai’s duties include examining film to create scouting reports, signaling blocking assignments to front-row players, managing a database of performance statistics, utilizing volleymetrics to review game footage and employing the 3-point volleyball scoring system to determine passing, serving, and defensive effectiveness.

Calai also helps ensure the program is compliant with NCAA regulations, accounts for program spending, creates in-depth itineraries for away trips, assists with scheduling and creates legal agreements for spring and preseason competitions. His involvement with practice includes assisting with equipment setup and scheduling practice players. He plans community service opportunities for the team and works to strengthen team relations with surrounding high schools, specifically related to summer camps.

Calai is no stranger to Miami Volleyball, having served as an intern with the program during the 2021 season, where he assisted with statistical analysis, video content and other day-to-day duties.

In the fall of 2022, Calai was a volunteer assistant coach with Miami University Hamilton’s volleyball program, where he organized and led drills for practices in addition to planning and implementing conditioning workouts and conducting weekly film review sessions. He also fundraised to help purchase new uniforms and practice equipment.

Calai is a 2022 graduate of Eastern Michigan University, earning a bachelor’s degree in sport management with minors in health education and communication. He was a member of the club volleyball team at EMU.
