Miami University Director of Track and Field/Cross Country coach Tom Chorny announced the addition of Sandy Moran to his staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Moran spent the past seven months as an assistant coach with Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. Despite the short stint, Moran helped coach a second-team All-American in the weight throw, four individual conference champions and four All-Conference performers.
Â
"I am impressed by the Track and Field program, the campus, and the academic reputation at Miami University," said Moran. "The ability to coach here is an exciting opportunity that Coach Chorny is providing me. I plan on working hard to make the coaches, community, and athletes proud of me and proud of themselves. I will always pursue excellence and I believe this is an ideal place to do that."Â
Â
Prior to joining BHSU, Moran served as the head track and field/cross country coach from 2020-22 at Highland Community College.
In her time with Highland CC, Moran coached two NJCAA Outdoor National Champions (posted a NJCAA all-time record in the javelin), eight Outdoor NJCAA All-Americans, five Indoor NJCAA All-Americans, and seven All-Academic Athletes.
"We had some great candidates for this position and Sandy stood out immediately as one of the top choices," said Chorny. "After connecting on the phone it was obvious that she would fill this role very well and I can't wait to see the student-athletes progress under her guidance."
Prior to her time at Highland CC, Moran was the assistant track and field and cross country coach at Cloud Community College for the 2019-20 season where she coached three All-Americans, eight athletes to the NCJAA Indoor Championship and four athletes to the NJCAA Outdoor Championship. Moran helped coach the men's Outdoor NJCAA National Championship team in 2019.
Before that, Moran was the assistant track and field coach at Lewis University from 2017-19. Throughout her time at Lewis, Moran coached two Second Team All-Americans, five All-Conference performers, and a National Qualifier.
Moran held the head coaching role for both track and field and cross country from 2004-10 at Humboldt State University. In her time with Humboldt, Moran coached three DII NCAA Qualifiers, 10 CCAA All Conference performances, and six NCAA Western All-Region performances in cross country. As track and field coach Moran coached 15 NCAA Outdoor DII qualifiers, 10 All-American performances, three GNAC Champions, and 14 CAA Conference Champions.
From 2002-04 Moran worked as the assistant track and field coach for Portland State University. Moran spent the 2001-02 season assistant coaching for Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville for both the track and field and cross country teams.
