Tyler Coffing completed his first season as an assistant coach at Miami in 2019-20 after being named to the swimming and diving staff on August 28, 2019.
At the 2020 MAC Championships, the men finished second while the women finished fourth. The Miami men won three relays and three individual events during the championship meet as four athletes were named All-MAC First Team, seven athletes were named All-MAC Second Team and the RedHawks had the MAC Freshman Diver of the Year. On the women’s side, Camila Lins de Mello repeated as the 200 free MAC Champion as she was named All-MAC First Team and Hannah Fuchs was named All-MAC Second Team following the conclusion of the championship meet. In addition, three swimmers have qualified for the Olympic Trials this season.
Coffing comes to Oxford from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., where he served as an assistant coach for one season, focusing on freestyle. Coffing helped lead both the men’s and women’s teams to Capital Athletic Conference Championships. The women’s team won its 29th championship in-a-row while the men’s team won its 19th straight championship and 25th overall. The men’s team also had an athlete earn All-American honors twice during the Division III NCAA Championships.
Last season, Coffing also coached two USA national Paralympic athletes.
Prior to his time at UMW, Coffing spent a season at Michigan State as a volunteer assistant coach. He worked primarily with the sprint freestyle and IM groups.
Coffing has also been a camp counselor at both Princeton and the University of Texas at Austin since earning his undergraduate degree.
Coffing earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Behavior Science with a minor in coaching science from the University of Delaware in 2017.
