Zac Zedrick returns for his ninth season as the RedHawks’ head coach. Over the past eight years he has returned the Miami program to prominence and seen several of his players earn prestigious honors.
Zedrick led Miami to the 2015 MAC Championship, winning the 72-hole tournament by eight strokes. The RedHawks went on to participate in their first NCAA Regional since 1998. As a result, he was named the MAC’s Kermit Blosser Coach of the Year.
Golfers have won several honors under Zedrick’s guidance. Patrick Flavin was a four-time All-MAC First Team selection and earned a spot on the PING All-Midwest Region Team in 2015, 2016 and 2018. He finished his career with the lowest scoring average (72.99 strokes per round) and most individual tournament wins (8) in Miami history. Brian Ohr earned a spot on the All-MAC Second-Team in 2017 and 2018. Also in 2018, Charlie Nikitas was named MAC Freshman of the Year and joined Ohr on the All-MAC Second-Team. Cam Solomon was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team as well. This past season, Nikitas was named First-Team All-MAC.
During the RedHawks’ championship in year in 2015, Flavin was named MAC Freshman of the Year, as well as the All-MAC Tournament Team. Scott Cahill was named to the All-MAC Second Team and All-MAC Tournament Team. Jack Sparling was named to the All-MAC Tournament Team.
Zedrick came to Miami after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Wichita State. While at Wichita, he helped lead the Shockers to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship each year. They also participated in the NCAA Regional each season and three golfers earned All-America status. Zedrick aided in all aspects of recruiting for Wichita, while serving as the tournament director for their home tournament, the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic.
Prior to his time in Wichita, Zedrick spent two seasons as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Toledo. While there he helped with all aspects of recruiting as well as providing on-course instruction during competitions.
Zedrick was a four-year letterwinner for Michigan State University. He served as team captain in each of his final two years. He was a member of the Academic All-Big Ten team in each of his final three seasons with the Spartans.
Zedrick earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Michigan State. He graduated with High Honors. He earned his master's degree from Toledo in 2008 in recreation management with an emphasis in athletic administration. He lives in Oxford with his wife Amanda and his daughters Millie and Norah.
