SCOUTING REPORT: Missed a lot of the spring with some nagging injuries, but coaches are high on this supremely talented young man ... he and Will Diaz make the end position a solid one ... good size and a great motor ... picks up on everything quickly ... as his knowledge grows, he'll get better and better.
2011: Appeared in all 12 games, making nine starts on the defensive line ... had 45 tackles and led the team with 9.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks ... against Buffalo (Oct. 29), had 2.5 tackles for a loss and one sack, as well as a forced fumble.
2010: Played in 13 of the team's 14 games and earned his first varsity letter ... finished eighth on the team in tackles with 48, second in TFLs with 10.5 for -48 yards, and first in quarterback sacks with six for -37 yards ... during Miami's six-game winning streak at the end of the season, he averaged five tackles, registered seven TFLs and six sacks ... his best games were at Buffalo (seven tackles and 1.5 QB sacks), in the bowl game (six tackles and 1.5 TFLs) and vs. Northern Illinois in the MAC title game (five tackles).
2009: The University of Iowa transfer sat out the season at Miami.
2008: Redshirt season at Iowa.
HIGH SCHOOL: First-team all-state and all-conference as a senior in 2007... All-Oakland County second-team selection ... ranked No. 18 in Detroit News Blue Chip rankings ... recorded 15 TFLs, 7.5 quarterback sacks and four fumble recoveries in his final season ... the team captain, he also played tight end ... also lettered four times in lacrosse and once in basketball ... finished No. 1 in his class, academically, as a freshman, sophomore and junior ... named 2006 American History Student of the Year ... prep football coach was George Porritt.
PERSONAL: Born August 7, 1989 ... older brother of RedHawk sophomore Justin Semmes ... son of James Semmes and Merleen Jones ... majoring in political science at Miami, he has a cumulative GPA of 3.0+.
