Softball
Last Week: The RedHawks (24-23, 11-12 MAC) won the series at Buffalo to close the regular season. On Friday, Miami fell to Buffalo 7-3. Kat Lee hit her fifth home run of the season as part of a comeback that fell short (Recap). On Saturday, the RedHawks' bats were in full swing, beating Buffalo 13-3 in the first game and 16-11 in the second game. In the first game, Megan Wurts (3-for-4, HR, SB, 3 RBI), Ashton Slone (3-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) and Lee (2-for-5, 2 RBI) led the RedHawks' offense. Five other players picked up a hit and 11 players reached base. In the second game, Lee (4-for-5, 1 RBI), Slone (3-for-3, 2 RBI, HR, 1 BB), Haeley Tran (3-for-4) and Mackenzie Moore (2-for-5, 4 RBI) led the RedHawks' offense. Morgan Lott and Lizzie Bollinger recorded two hits and two RBI's each. Nine players recorded a hit (Recap). Next Week: Miami travels to Akron, Ohio for the 2018 MAC Tournament. The RedHawks are the No. 8 seed and will play No. 1 Ohio on Wednesday at 1 p.m. (Release).
Baseball
Last Week: Miami (28-16, 13-8 MAC) went 3-1 in four games this past week, beginning with a 7-2 win over rival Cincinnati at home on Tuesday. Ross Haffey, Landon Stephens and Hayden Senger all launched solo homers to lead the charge (Recap). The `Hawks were on the road for the weekend at Western Michigan. Miami opened the series with a 10-6 victory on Friday thanks to the offense surging late to score seven runs over the final three innings (Recap). Saturday saw the Red & White bats go quiet as the Broncos pulled out a 6-1 win to force a Sunday rubber match (Recap). Runs were at a premium in the series finale. WMU's starting pitcher took a no-hitter into the sixth but a Haffey homer to deep center broke the scoreless tie and handed the `Hawks a 1-0 lead. A pair of safety squeezes in the eighth and ninth innings helped seal a 3-1 triumph as Miami earned its sixth conference series win in seven weekends (Recap). This Week: With the road portion of the season's schedule in the books, Miami will close the regular season with a seven-game home stand. The upcoming week features four of those contests, starting with Ball State at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in a midweek non-conference matchup. The `Hawks then host Central Michigan for the weekend, starting on Friday at 5 p.m.
Track & Field
Last Week: Miami wrapped up its regular season at the Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. The Red & White picked up three individual event victories while also getting big performances out of Sean Torpy and Christopher Torpy as they turned in the two fastest 800m times in the MAC this season (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks compete in the MAC Outdoor Championships at Buffalo. The meet runs from Thursday to Saturday.
