
Miami Falls To Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Miami University softball team fell to Buffalo by a 7-3 margin on Friday. The RedHawks move to 22-23 on the season and 9-12 in MAC play.

Courtney Vierstra started the game in the circle. Vierstra pitched three and one third innings, giving up four earned runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking three.
Taylor Rathe relieved Vierstra in the middle of the fourth inning and finished the game. Rathe pitched two and two thirds innings, giving up no runs on five hits while walking one and striking out two.
Megan Wurts led off with a walk and stole second. With two down, Johniann Wahl doubled to score Wurts and give the RedHawks an early 1-0 lead. Kat Lee walked but runners were stranded on first and second.
Kaitlyn Gliha led off with a walk in the second inning. Mackenzie Moore singled and advanced Gliha to third. Gliha and Moore pulled off the double steal with Moore advancing to third on the throw that did not beat Gliha home. Miami had a 2-0 lead in the middle of the second.
Buffalo took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Vierstra struck out her third batter of the game but reached base on error. A walk and single loaded the bases with two outs. Two singles drove in three unearned runs.
The Bulls extended their lead to 5-2 in the third with a two-run home run.
Gliha led off the fourth inning with another walk but was left on second after a sacrifice bunt from Morgan Lott allowed Gliha to advance.
Buffalo scored two more in the fourth on a two-run home run to bring the score to 7-2 and a change in the circle for the RedHawks.
Lee hit her fifth home run of the season as the leadoff batter in the sixth. Gliha singled but was stranded on base.
Haeley Tran and Wahl each hit a single in the seventh but could not score.
Wahl (2-for-4, 1 RBI), Lee (1-for-3, HR, RBI, BB) and Gliha (1-for-1, 2 BB) led the RedHawks' offense.

Miami concludes the Buffalo series and regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
