Miami Golf Announces Rick McVey Indoor Golf Facility to Open Next Spring

Miami University director of athletics David Sayler announced today that the RedHawks will officially open the Rick McVey Indoor Golf Facility in the spring of 2027. The facility will be located in a retrofitted university building off of Wells Mill Drive in Oxford and provide an 3,500-square-foot all-season home for Miami Golf.

The new, state of the art golf training center will feature three TrackMan bays equipped with industry-leading technology, two SAM PuttLab systems for advanced putting analysis, a dedicated putting green and chipping area and a fully equipped club fitting space. In addition to the performance areas, the facility will include a team lounge and dedicated coaches' offices, creating a centralized home for Miami Golf where players and coaches can train, prepare, develop, and build meaningful connections year-round. This facility will give Miami Golf the resources and infrastructure necessary to continue competing at the highest level of college golf.

The Miami University golf program was part of Miami's seven MAC team championships in the 2025-26 academic year, leading the Red and White to its second straight year winning both the men's and women's overall MAC athletic awards. Under Sayler's leadership, Miami accomplished the first-ever repeat athletic sweep in MAC history.

"I am thrilled to join my fellow golf alums and friends of Miami golf to make this critical facility available for Miami golfers," said McVey, a co-captain of Miami's 1981 MAC champion team and a current member of the Miami University Board of Trustees. "Coach Fletcher is building a winning culture for Miami Golf, and the indoor practice facility will accelerate the competitiveness of the RedHawk team for years to come."

"With the ever-evolving landscape of college athletics, it is truly an evolve-or-die path forward. This facility will mirror the top facilities in college golf, benefitting current and future Miami golfers," said head coach JD Fletcher.

"Having this facility will mean the world to our team," said senior Nathan Vonderhaar. "Living in Ohio my whole life, I've seen how access to a high-end indoor facility can develop skills in the winter months, leading to a big impact on performance in the spring."

"Competing at the Division I level, having a place where we can consistently get better will make a huge difference, bring our team closer together and help us take this program to the next level," added sophomore Michael Stagnaro.
