RedHawks Open MAC Play with Comeback Win at Home, 2-1

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University soccer team overcame an early goal in a 2-1 win against the University of Akron Thursday. Katie O'Malley scored three points and Averie Bierker scored her first career goal during the contest. The RedHawks move to 5-4-0 (1-0-0) with the result. UA is now 4-4-0 (0-1-0).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Akron scored early in the 5th minute on a goal by Rachel Wenzel and an assist by Tewabech Seerup, 1-0.
- The RedHawks scored the equalizer via an unassisted goal by O'Malley, who ran down the left side of the pitch and scored over the goalie to the far side in the 27th minute, 1-1.
- Miami took a lead 2-1 on an O'Malley assist to Bierker, who used her right foot from the far side of the goal in the 58th minute.
- Dominique Popa made an incredible, leaping save in the 66th minute, tipping the ball over the cross bar to keep the RedHawks in the lead.
- In the 70th minute, Morhéa Hoefen had a shot saved in the upper right corner.
- Ava Boyd made a sliding tackle in the 84th minute, preventing an Akron breakaway.
NOTES
- Bierker scored the first goal of her career.
- Natalka Superson tallied 72 minutes, the most in her career.
- O'Malley registered a goal and an assist for the second time in her career.
