OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University's Human Performance and Wellness department has promoted Catherine Czabala and hired Delia Artus. Czabala will serve as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and Artus starts as a Fellowship Athletic Trainer.
"I would like to thank Director of Athletics David Sayler and Deputy Athletic Director/Chief of Staff Chauncey Winbush for their continued support of the Wellness Services Department," said Assistant Athletic Director for Wellness Services Jennifer Beardslee. "The addition of the Athletic Training Fellow position will allow us to provide dedicated healthcare coverage for our Swimming and Diving program while also supporting the continued growth and professional development of our Wellness Services staff. We greatly appreciate their commitment to expanding our resources and enhancing the level of care we are able to provide to our student-athletes.
"I am thrilled to announce the promotion of Catherine Czabala to Assistant Athletic Trainer and the hiring of Delia Artus as our Athletic Training Fellow. Both Catherine and Delia are promising young professionals who bring a strong commitment to the athletic training profession and to the student-athletes they serve."
Czabala will work primarily with the Miami Cross Country, Field Hockey and Track/Field programs.
"Catherine is a hardworking, detail-oriented certified athletic trainer who consistently demonstrates a genuine commitment to the health, well-being and success of our student-athletes," Beardslee said. "Her dedication and professionalism have made her an invaluable member of our athletic training staff, and we are excited to see her continue to grow in her new role as Assistant Athletic Trainer."
This past year, Czabala primarily worked with the Miami Field Hockey program as a Fellowship Athletic Trainer. Before that, she spent time within the Miami athletic department as an athletic training student with Miami Football. She collaborated with other athletics trainers to provide comprehensive coverage during practices and games, conducted injury evaluations, delivered basic first aid and acute injury care on the field, documented daily injury reports, made rehabilitation progress notes, maintained accurate medical records, accompanied team physicians during on-field emergencies and clinical appointments, applied advanced taping, wrapping, and bracing techniques tailored to football-specific injuries and aided in design and implementation of individualized rehabilitation plans.
Prior to her experience with the football team, she spent time with a variety of sports at Miami (2022-23) and she also assisted at Talawanda High School (2023) as an athletic training student. With Miami, Czabala applied preventative taping, wrapping and bracing techniques to reduce injury risk and improve athlete performance. She also contributed to injury rehabilitation, reported injury updates, traveled with athletic teams to assist in medical coverage, managed supply inventory, restocked equipment and maintained sanitation standards. While assisting at Talawanda High School, she supported the on-site Certified Athletic Trainer in managing daily operations of the athletic training room, ensuring efficient care for student-athletes. Czabala's duties included performing lower extremity evaluations on student-athletes with ankle, knee, and hip injuries, building clinical assessment skills, instructing athletes through supervised rehabilitation exercises and reinforcing therapeutic techniques and communication abilities. She also helped support medical coverage of high school athletic events.
Czabala received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2024 and earned a Master of Athletic Training in 2025 from Miami University.
"I am really excited to be continuing my time at Miami working with the Field Hockey team," said Czabala. "I am also really grateful to be moving into a new position where I get to work with the Track & Field and Cross Country teams as well!"
Artus will work primarily with the Miami Swimming and Diving program.
"Delia will provide healthcare services to our Swimming and Diving program. In addition to her clinical training and passion for athletic healthcare, her background as a competitive synchronized swimmer will provide a unique perspective and be a tremendous asset to our program," said Beardslee. "We are excited to welcome Delia to our department and look forward to the contributions she will make to our student-athletes and staff."
Artus has spent the past year working with the Miami Football team, where she has managed the immediate care, therapeutic interventions and administrative documentation. She also gained experience with the Miami Baseball team in the spring of 2025, as she executed comprehensive injury assessments, created and implemented rehabilitation plans and provided immediate field coverage. In the fall of 2024, Artus began working in Oxford with Talawanda High School, delivering direct patient care (including acute injury evaluation and return-to-play protocols).
She worked with the John-F-Kennedy School Sports Club as an administrative assistant in the winter and summer of 2024. Her duties included streamlining daily operations by managing membership records, coordinating scheduling for youth sports programs and handling administrative communications. Over that same period of time, Artus also spent time as a student worker, where her responsibilities consisted of supporting clinical staff by preparing treatment areas, performing strength diagnostics and assisting with patient assessment and therapeutic exercise setups.
Artus received a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Science in 2023 from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and earned a Master of Athletic Training from Miami University in 2026.
"I'm incredibly excited for this next chapter and grateful for the opportunity to continue my journey at Miami University. This opportunity is especially meaningful because it represents not only the next step in my career, but also the culmination of the support, guidance and encouragement I have received over the past two years," said Artus. "I am deeply grateful to my family, professors, preceptors, mentors, and everyone who has supported, guided, and inspired me throughout my studies. Each of you has played an important role in shaping the person I am today, and I am thankful for all of the people who have helped me get to this point."
