COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced its Players of the Week presented by KJ Branding today, and Miami sophomore Matteo Drobac was named the National's Goaltender of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Drobac, a native of Oakville, Ontario, matches Jay Williams (2014-15, four) for the most NCHC Goaltender of the Week awards accumulated by a Miami netminder in a single season.
Drobac continued his stellar January with back-to-back victories at No. 20/19 St. Cloud State last weekend, yielding only one goal each night. Drobac, who has now won four consecutive starts, was named the Second Star in both games and did not allow a single 5-on-5 goal in 120 minutes vs. the Huskies. He was spectacular down the stretch, holding SCSU scoreless in more than seven total minutes of 5-on-6 play across the two games as Miami finished off its first NCHC road sweep in more than five years. Drobac posted a 1.00 GAA and .968 save percentage for the weekend to help the RedHawks record a second straight sweep in NCHC play for the first time in program history.
Drobac and the RedHawks host No. 4 Western Michigan this weekend at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. Puck drop on Friday, Feb. 6 is set for 7:05 p.m.
