Women's Swimming and Diving Finish Fourth at MAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio — The Miami University women's swimming and diving team finished in fourth place among nine teams at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships on Saturday, as the RedHawks scored 492 points. Other placements were Akron in first with 771 points, Ohio in second with 559 points, Ball State in third with 500 points, Buffalo in fifth with 446 points, Eastern Michigan in sixth place with 263 points, UMass in seventh with 195 points, Toledo in eighth with 174 points and Bowling Green in ninth with 159 points.
Gracie Gregory was named the MAC Freshman Swimmer of the Year. All-MAC First Team honors were given to Gregory and Chrisna Bezuidenhout. All-MAC Second Team was awarded to Kaylin Herbet, Julia Waechter and Sydney Rice.

UP NEXT: The NCAA Diving Zones (C) will happen in Ypsilanti, Mich. starting on March 9. After that is the NCAA Women's Championships, which will take place in Atlanta, Ga. beginning on March 18.

How it Happened:
- The meet kicked off with the 1650 freestyle, where Gregory secured a first-place finish for the RedHawks, turning in a time of 16:39.00.
- The 200-yard backstroke was next, where Bezuidenhout finished first, breaking the previous program record she set nearly a year ago with a time of 1:54.28 (NCAA qualifying).
- In the 100-yard freestyle, Waechter grabbed seventh (50.54) in the A Final, while Herbet took 11th (50.01) in the B Final.
- The 200-yard breaststroke was next, where Madison Watschke finished ninth with a time of 2:16.14, and Natalie Gilson followed right behind in tenth with a time of 2:16.63.
- Ashley Sego finished 15th in the 200-yard butterfly, recording a time of 2:04.65.
- For diving events, Rice finished third in the three-meter dive, putting up a score of 290.75 (NCAA qualifying).
- Swimming events concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay, where Miami finished third. Jenna Halliday, Herbet, Gilson and Waechter earned a combined time of 3:19.54.
