HOW IT HAPPENED
- * The visiting Zips grabbed a 6-3 lead in the first set when the RedHawks responded by outscoring Akron 12-3 to charge ahead 15-9. The RedHawks recorded five kills, two service aces and two blocks during that scoring burst. The Zips fought back to stay within three points at 21-18 before Akron errors and kills from Michelin and Molly Creech pushed Miami to a 25-22 first-set win.
- Miami claimed the first two points of the second set behind a kill from Coyne and Creech. After some back-and-forth action, the Red and White scored four consecutive points to jump ahead 12-8 and force an Akron timeout. Shortly after, two kills by Coyne and an attack error from the Zips sent Miami into the media timeout on top 15-11. The RedHawks forced another Akron timeout at 20-14 thanks to a couple of kills by Williams, a kill by Raegan Lantz and two attack errors from the visiting team. Rachel Morgan went on to help Miami secure a 25-16 second-set victory after serving an ace to end the set.
- The score remained even at 5-5 in the third set behind a pair of Kreutz kills. Three more kills from the RedHawks and a Van Deusen service ace gave Miami the edge at 9-8 with the midpoint of the set approaching. Despite Miami leading 13-11, Akron found a way to enter the media timeout with a 15-14 advantage. Miami went on to even the set at 18 apiece when the Zips answered with a 4-0 run. An attack error, a bad set and another Van Deusen service ace brought Miami within one at 22-21, but the effort fell just short, as Akron claimed the third set 25-21.
- Two errors by the Zips and two kills from Coyne gave Miami a 4-3 lead in the fourth set. Akron went on to take an 11-7 lead when two kills from Miami and Van Deusen's third service ace of the match forced a timeout by the visitors. Trailing 14-11, the RedHawks scored five straight points to reclaim control at 16-14. Akron found a way to even the set at 17-17 and eventually captured the set 25-22.
- Miami stormed out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth set behind four kills, two coming from Coyne. Williams and Creech each put down a kill to give Miami a seven-point advantage at 10-3. Despite a strong push by the visitors, Michelin put down a kill to secure the fifth set 15-11.
NOTES:
- Miami extended the longest winning streak in the MAC to eight and now owns its longest conference win streak since 2019, when the RedHawks won nine MAC matches in a row.
- Miami served eight aces compared to just four from Akron.
