COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced its weekly award winners today, and Miami sophomore Ilia Morozov was recognized as the NCHC's Forward of the Week.
Morozov scored four first-period goals across two games to help Miami to a home-and-home sweep of Robert Morris last week and became the first RedHawk with back-to-back multi-goal games in the same season since Phil Knies (Jan. 12-13, 2018). The Buffalo Sabres prospect now owns four multi-goal games in his career, with half of them coming this past week. He currently leads the nation in power-play goals with three and is tied for third nationally in goals per game. The sophomore's prolific production included his first-ever goals in Steve "Coach" Cady Arena last Thursday to help Miami to a 7-1 rout in its home opener, earning the Moscow, Russia native Third Star honors.
This is Morozov's second career Forward of the Week honor and first this season. Morozov and Miami are back in action for a non-conference home series against Alaska Anchorage this weekend. Puck drop on Friday, Oct. 23 is set for 7:05 p.m. in Oxford.
