Fourth-Quarter Comeback Falls Just Short in 3-2 Loss to UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – No. 14 Miami fell to No. 3 UMass Friday in a 3-2 thriller despite dominating the Minutewomen in shots taken and penalty corners awarded. Máxi Aguirregomezcorta and Kylie Coughlin each scored a goal for the RedHawks to strike back down three goals in the fourth quarter. Miami falls to 6-4 with the loss (3-1 MAC) while UMass stays perfect at 11-0 (4-0 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks earned the game's first three penalty corners but did not score. In the last three minutes of the first quarter, UMass went 2-for-2 on their only corner opportunities of game, flipping the momentum with a 2-0 lead.
- Miami had two more corners in the second quarter, but UMass saved both shots.
- After two Miami corners in the third, the Minutewomen took over possession and drew a penalty stroke. They scored to stretch the lead to 3-0.
- The RedHawks closed out the third quarter with four unsuccessful corners.
- Aguirregomezcorta broke through early in the fourth corner, picking up the rebound on Miami's 13th penalty corner of the day and scoring to make it 3-1.
- Minutes later, the RedHawks made another offensive push, generating back-to-back corners. After a saved shot by Sloane Wearren, Coughlin slammed a shot through to the back of the net to pull the RedHawks within one goal, 3-2.
- With five minutes to play, the RedHawks pulled their goalie. They put together three more corners and five more shots, including one off the crossbar, but couldn't find the equalizer.

- The RedHawks outshot the Minutewomen 30 to five (16 on goal to three on goal).
- Miami generated 17 penalty corners and let up just two to UMass.
- Aguirregomezcorta's goal broke a UMass streak of 43 successfully defended penalty corners.

- Aguirregomezcorta took seven shots (five on goal).
- Justina Intzes took four shots (one on goal).
