
Singer, Byers Named Miami Athletes of the Week

For their performances last week, Tamar Singer and Brant Byers are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of Jan. 5.

Female Winner: Tamar Singer
Tamar Singer averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals as the RedHawks picked up wins over Kent State and Toledo. The sophomore posted 16 points, nine rebounds and eight assists at Kent State and added 13 points, four rebounds and seven assists against the Rockets. She was also nearly perfect from the foul line (11-12) for the week, which included six-straight makes in the closing seconds in the win over KSU. A sophomore guard from Haifa, Israel, she is studying Sport Communication and Media in the College of Education, Health and Society.

Male Winner: Brant Byers
Brant Byers helped the RedHawks to a pair of victories over Bowling Green and Akron this week, as the RedHawks remain undefeated at 15-0 (3-0 MAC). Miami defeated Bowling Green on the road 93-83 Tuesday night and took down Akron at home 76-73 Saturday afternoon. Byers totaled 43 points (21.5/game), shot 12-of-21 (57.1%) from the field, sank 6-of-12 (50%) shots from the three-point line and went 13-of-14 (92.9%) from the free-throw line over the two games. He also totaled 10 rebounds (5.0/game) and one steal (0.5/game) on the week. Byers totaled 17 points and six rebounds versus the Falcons. He went on to record a game-high 26 points, four rebounds and one steal against the Zips. A redshirt sophomore wing from Chambersburg, Pa., he is studying Small Business Management in the College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science.
