
RedHawks Drop Opener at Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky.— The Miami University soccer team dropped its season opener Sunday evening, falling 2-0 at Bellarmine University. The Knights used two first-half goals to move to 1-0-0 on the year, while the RedHawks fall to 0-1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights opened the scoring in the fourth minute, as Lucy von Stefenelli converted an early penalty kick after a foul near the edge of the box.
- Miami had a chance to equalize in the 21st minute, but Kayla Perfect's penalty kick attempt was saved by Anna Jenkins.
- Bellarmine stretched its lead in the 39th minute on a set piece, with Sidney Rigsby heading home a free kick from Aubrey Bally.
- The visitors' best scoring chance of the second half came in the 51st minute, but Katie O'Malley's shot from distance was parried away by the Knights' keeper.
NOTES
- Miami outshot Bellarmine 15-7 in the match.
- Three RedHawks were credited with multiple shots on goal: Morhéa Hoefen, Caroline Mortonson and Shae Taylor.
- The RedHawks attempted six corner kicks and allowed only two.
- Four players made their Miami debuts: Gracyn Becker, Mortonson, Jaden Sink and Taylor.
- Goalkeeper Dominique Popa played all 90 minutes and made three saves for the Red and White.
